My Art Table

I don't often work at the art table. I sit and gaze at it from my favourite armchair, where I spend most evenings with a lap-desk, a sketchbook and a pail of Prismacolour markers. (My idea of heaven!)

The cats used to annoy me by trying to drink my paint water. Finally I bought a narrow-mouthed flower vase. (You can see it next to the spray bottle.) It's too skinny for cat-noses or paws, and it has a wide base that keeps it from tipping over. Now, if I could just keep them from "tasting" my tea every time my back is turned . . .

January Thaw

It was actually mild enough for a bit of outdoor sketching--a rare treat at this time of year! The lake is still frozen, and the shore is littered with broken slabs and plates of ice. Their undersides are iceberg blue, but I can't capture that unearthly colour with markers. It's much more beautiful than what I've drawn here.

When you sit there quietly, you can hear the ice shifting and cracking below the surface. I wanted to stay longer, but it just isn't warm enough yet. Thank goodness Santa brought me a pair of fingerless gloves!

Princess Meesha

Which fairy tale does this remind you of? I was making the bed, and when I turned around to get a pillow, there she was. Soon she'll be wanting a crown and a little throne with her name on it. And a prince...?!

S&R Visitors

I was at the diner across the street when I noticed some people
touring the now-vacant S&R building. I wonder what's up? It's truly an
historic building in our town. I hope it'll be well taken-care-of.
