The Royal Visit 1919

A couple of years ago, I came across this story in an old newspaper, and I've been wanting to share it ever since. It happened right across the street from my apartment. Seventeen years after this royal visit, the Prince would abdicate and marry Mrs. Simpson. (If you've seen the movie The King's Speech, you know about this.) More tomorrow!

Fred's Early Memory 4/5

By the way (thanks for your lovely comment, Deb!) the text for this little story is taken from a memoir by E.F. Benson called Our Family Affairs. He grew up to be a scholar, a bestselling author, a champion figure skater, and mayor of the town of Rye in England. He had the most beautiful way of describing childhood incidents--so vivid and full of feeling. This is one of his earliest memories.

I'm not sure why I like these Benson Family memoirs so much. I just do! There's something so vivid and "real" about them. I hope you like them, too. More tomorrow!
